Automattic buys Social Image Generator plugin for WordPress redesign

WordPress parent company Automattic has acquired the Social Image Generator plugin, with plans to integrate with the WordPress Jetpack toolkit already underway.

Founded by Daniel Post, Social Image Generator automatically creates social sharing images for its clients’ social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, VK, WhatsApp, iMessage, and Reddit.

Speaking on the recently announced acquisition, Post said, “I am incredibly excited to join Jetpack and Automattic so that I can continue to develop Social Image Generator and help more people in the WordPress community improve their social media presence. social media and get their message out to their Fans. “

Jetpack integration

Post will also join Jetpack to continue to develop Social Image Generator and integrate it with Jetpack’s social media functionality.

Jetpack said he believes the template editor fits in perfectly with everything they do with WordPress, which is the main reasoning behind the deal.

That said, Jetpack added that Social Image Generator complements Jetpack’s social media tools, which include the automatic posting of posts and products to websites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Tumblr.

Social Image Generator offers a wide range of different templates, and depending on the company, all of them are fully customizable.

“When I first saw Social Image Generator, the functionality seemed perfectly suited to our existing social media tools,” said James Grierson, CEO of Jetpack.

“I look forward to the future enhancements to functionality and user experience that will result from this acquisition.

“The goal of our social product is to help content creators grow their audiences through increased distribution and engagement. Social Image Generator will be a key part of helping us deliver this to our customers. ”

This isn’t the first time Automattic has taken a look at a company that’s bringing something new to the WordPress ecosystem.

In February 2021, the company took over to make it easier for users to add powerful analytics to their WordPress sites, and in June 2021, Automattic added the Day One personal logging app to its list.
